ANTS!

This is what I have been waking up to for the last few days...

Our newest tenants...Carpenter Ants. I have dealt with these little guys before, but never had to deal with them invading my sanctuary: the bedroom. Normally I am not a violent person, I even catch spiders and release them outside, but I am afraid these newest invaders are bringing out a new side in me. Of course this could also be attributed to lack of sleep from waking up every morning around 4am with a small cat standing on my head trying to climb the wall to get to her new "toys." I have to thank my cat for alerting us to this problem, if she had not brought my attention to them, I could have not noticed them until they had tunneled through all the wood on the east side of our house.
Of course when something like this happens, I become obsessed with learning all I can about the issue. I have hired professionals to come and take care of them for us, but while we wait for the bait to kick in, I am trying to find ways to help keep them out of the house. The most important thing I have learned from my research is...don't smash the ants you see in the house. You see, apparently that attracts even more ants to come in and remove the bodies of their fallen comrade...who knew?
